Cranial nerve examination is often perceived by some as a challenging examination which is time consuming, difficult to interpret and often involves sparsely distributed or unavailable equipment. This paper summarises key points involved in cranial nerve examination and is intended to make junior doctors feel more confident at performing and interpreting the examination. A summary table of common cranial nerve lesions and their signs and symptoms is provided.
